The 17th Annual Narciso Martinez Conjunto Festival has been cancelled.
The 17th Annual Narciso Martinez Conjunto Festival, scheduled for Sept. 12-14, has been cancelled due to the likelihood of extreme weather conditions this weekend. Festival Coordinator Rogelio Nunez said the decision was made for the safety of participants and performers.
“In the interest of public safety we have cancelled the festival,” Nunez said. “It’s best that we don’t jeopardize anyone—it’s not a weekend storm, it’s a hurricane.”
This year’s event, sponsored by Glazer's Distributors and the City of San Benito, was to be held at the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center at 225 E. Stenger Street in San Benito. The festival is a staple event for the community, attracting over 3,500 people from across the country for a celebration of live Texas-Mexico Conjunto music.
Further information regarding the festival will be announced next week.
